How to find if you are on your right path of life

Introductory question

Knowing the right element and doing what it takes are two different dialects! Every time you have to make a decision, you have to be seconded with that, just to be sure of the same. But sometimes, there may not be anyone to second that thought. So what? You are sufficient by yourself. Nah... It still doesn’t convince you, does it?

Self-doubt can trouble your thoughts so much that despite you doing the right thing, despite knowing that the path you are on is the right one, you take a step back! Why? It’s okay to take a step back. Sit back like a boss and review!

Steve Jobs says, ‘You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can connect them looking backwards. So you’ll have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future!’

When you ask questions like ‘Am I doing the right thing?’, ‘Am I in the right direction?’, ‘Is the path that I have chosen, the appropriate one?’ there might be a lot of signs and signals that you might be missing out. Here is a list of signs that might want to observe when you sit back, reflect, and review. Happy reading! :D

Signs you can look out for

These signs are quite self-introspective. So you might as well jot down your thoughts when you go through in your journal, or diary, or your goal book! If you haven’t had one, then take it from our store, and begin writing along with these points!

1. Sunrise and sunset- the sunrise and sunset are a discipline that our planet and star follow. But it is the meaning we associate with matters! When you get out of the bed, it is supposed to be full of energy, excitement, and enthusiasm! And when you sleep, it is supposed to be a calm mind. As simple as, at the sunrise, you have a plan on your mind, a set agenda, a target to achieve. At sunset, all your to-do for the day, at least most of them, should have a tick mark. Mind you, this process should be consistent. It is not like one day you achieve this, and the next you are one couch potato! (unless being so was the agenda for the day :P)

When this sunrise and sunset activity sets in like discipline, you are so much at ease and helps you stay focused on your dreams to achieve. When you see more of those tick marks, and task accomplished sign, you know you are on the right path.

2. Job satisfaction- Do what you love, love what you! That is one statement we have heard ever since we started thinking about our career. But sometimes there might be a lag in finding what exactly you want! It might be your dream job, you would have worked hard to get up there, and you should be feeling fantastic! You have got what you wanted! Not the same scene, is it?

Then maybe you are in search of what you need. Yes, a well-paying job, but is it a stomach contending job? Within yourself, do you feel the satisfaction of doing that job you are doing? It might be your own commitments that might be holding you back. Then slowly start doing what you need to. Monetary aspect might be a risk, but if you feel the need to take that risk, then take it! It is simple. If you are satisfied with what you are doing, you know you are on the right path!

3. Filter coffee- as you progress with life, it filters out a lot of material and manpower in your life. Those best friends at school or childhood may not even remember you now. But the person you met a year ago would have understood you so well! It is quite simple, like how you prepare filter coffee. Only the best of the aroma lingers throughout your sip. All that big gang in the years of formal education is broken down into chunks! Yes, social media is very much there to contribute to it, but how much do you talk to them? Or wait, do you even message them a hi, or just like their post?

Well, the point is that, when you progress in life, your circle of trust and closed ones gets smaller. Your gang is reduced to a few hand-full of them who tag along with you, making it till the last. As you grow, your circle keeps changing, that wavelength you have with people keeps changing. With the change, it gets purer. And oftentimes you might maintain a different set of circles as well; for example, personal life and professional life. Likewise only those stay with you in the process and will tag along. The rest gets filtered out. If you have that circle, then you know you are on the right path!

4. Peace and calm- umm... you don’t have to go to the mountains, meditate for days together! Well, you can meditate at your home sweet home for some relaxation and self-introspection. Whichever path you are heading onto, it will demand hard work and labour from you, but like job satisfaction, it should be calm and peaceful for you. If there is unwanted stress and tension, that is not going to reward you enough for your efforts, you’ll have to reflect upon whether is it really worth it!

You should have that feel-good factor with whatever you do. Patience and presence of mind can pull you out of any stressful situation. Sometimes there are warning signs. You can go by them as well! Once, or twice situations will guide you through. If you still feel stuck, then you have to look out for alternative means to lead a peaceful path of life. If you already are, then you know you are on the right path!

5. Forgiven past- a few constantly think of their future and end up compromising on their present. And few, stay back in the past, forgetting to live in the present. There are so many instances that hold us back. There are situations that maybe you can’t get passed through. But can you invent the time machine, go back in time and correct them? (If you are able to, please tell us also :P)

Acceptance and forgiveness relieve the stress on your shoulders, so much so that, you feel like you are floating in thin, cool calm air! It clears out your thought process, and all the humps and hurdles you constantly see on your path. Once you have embraced your emotions, it is easier to move on. And automatically messed up things start clearing up! If you have forgiven your past, yourself, and are clear in what you are heading at, then you know you are on the right path!

The extra mile

6. Contentedness/Completeness- Buddha says, ‘No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.’ And the path you choose, you own it completely. Be it up or down. You are the creator of your own path! It boils down to this very factor that, if you don’t do it the way your way, then you’ll just end up doing what others want you to do. That may not turn in your way at all. Even if so, is it giving you a satisfactory feeling?

You are your own creator. It is you who has to decide what needs to be done. Of course, it is tailored as per the situations that arise, as per friends’ and family’s association, but whatever you do; you would own that up. Success or failure, at least, it is going to be yours. You would feel content with that, and that feeling of completeness is the biggest sign to tell you if you are on the right path. If you feel complete, then you know you are on the right path!

Conclusion

There is a saying that sometimes the right path is not the easiest one. Yes, agreed that despite knowing that what you are doing is the right thing to, it might be tough to stick to that. They might be the toughest decisions, but once you do, you know that you don’t have to be afraid of it anymore. You just have to have that self-confidence within you. Even if the world opines that you are wrong, but in your gut feeling, you know you are right. So just go with that flow, because when the time starts ticking in your favor, you can sigh in relief.

Now talking about the path, and a sigh of relief, we cannot escape mentioning this poem and person. Well, if you know, you know. Else you don’t have to worry! Drop-in your email and subscribe to our blog page. We can interpret the path of the poem together! :D

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveller, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less travelled by,

And that has made all the difference.
